The Gospel of Jesus Christ
Several years ago I came across some bible teachers who say there are people spreading a false gospel, and they call it a "second gospel". Les Feldic is one of them. Mr. Feldic states there is no need to go through a prayer of salvation, or repentance to receive redemption-but only believe on the Lord Jesus and you'll be saved. You could go back and forth for a long time-and argue the point, but I'm just going to take a few verses that dispute these claims and let the reader come to their own convictions.

I have no personal dispute with him, or anyone else who teaches this, but will speak my point of faith, and leave it with the reader to go to scripture, and prayer and seek the Holy Spirit for the truth. There doesn't need to be any formal structured prayer, when I was alone in my house over 40 years ago I simply said "Lord, I know I've done so much, have sinned so greatly-there's no reason for you to love me, but if you would forgive me, please come into my heart and life and help me live for you." It included repentance, and simply acknowledging Jesus as Lord-and I knew He had answered that prayer, and I was saved.

I stand on what I consider the most important scripture Jesus ever spoke concerning himself, in the gospel of John ch. 14:6:

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

This one verse describes who Jesus is, and the fact that He is the only way to salvation-there is no other; and He is the only way to access to the Father.

On the day of Pentecost, after Christ had risen from the dead Peter preached to the crowd of about 3,000 assembled there and proclaimed this:

Act 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

I've heard some teach that Peter was only preaching to Jews-that no Gentiles were present-how do they know that? I believe both Jews and Gentiles were present because when the Holy Ghost fell on them, many said they heard those speaking in tongues, speaking in their own language-this tells me there were more than Jews there. So, I also get from this, that Peter was calling both Jews and Gentiles to repent-and be baptized for the remission of sins. I do not hold to Les Feldic or anyone else saying we can "just believe". James tells us that the demons believe, and tremble.

Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

To go further in this, we can look at 1John 1:7-10. Mr. Feldic holds that when Jesus was preaching before his death-he was only referring to the Jews needing to repent, and that voicing repentance isn't necessary in Paul's gospel. These verses spoken in 1John disputes his teaching. When I'm seeking truth-I want to use the whole counsel of God.

1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Paul gives us the gospel clearly in ICor. ch. 15:3-6
1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1Co 15:5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
1Co 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

Lastly, when Paul was standing before Agrippa giving his testimony, he spoke of his mission to preach to both Jew and Gentile, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

Act 26:19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
Act 26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

From this point on, whenever I post one of my graphics of the Gospel of Jesus Christ- I will include this short teaching. It will clear up any confusion or question on where I stand, and what the Gospel means-to me, according to the scriptures.

1 John 1:8-10
If we say that we have no sin. To say that we have reached a sinless state in which we no longer need the blood of Christ to cleanse us is a deception. This language is in square opposition to the claims of the "Perfectionists" of all ages.

If we confess our sins. Instead of affirming that we are sinless we should confess our sins.

Faithful and just. If we confess our sins the Lord will be faithful to his promise of mercy, and just in requiring us to have the atonement of Christ, to forgive us our sins.

If we say that we have not sinned. God says we have sinned. He declares "There is none righteous; no, not one." Hence, if we affirm that we are sinless we make God a liar. B.W. Johnson comm.

If we confess our sins,.... Not to one other; for though it is our duty to confess our faults to our fellow creatures and fellow Christians which are committed against them, yet are under no obligation to confess such as are more immediately against God, and which lie between him and ourselves; or at least it is sufficient to confess and acknowledge in general what sinful creatures we are, without entering into particulars; for confession of sin is to be made to God, against whom it is committed, and who only can pardon: and a man that truly confesses his sin is one that the Spirit of God has convinced of it, and has shown him its exceeding sinfulness, and filled him with a godly sorrow for it, and given him repentance unto salvation, that needeth not to be repented of; and who, under such a sight and sense of sin, and concern for it, comes and acknowledges it before the Lord, humbly imploring, for Christ's sake, his pardoning grace and mercy; and such obtain it: John Gill comm.

Righteous Forgiveness 1 John 1:8-9
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.—1Jn_1:8-9.
1. These words sum up the great characteristic aim which distinguishes Christianity from every other system and institution on earth. The object of education is to get rid of ignorance. The object of medicine is to get rid of disease. The object of Socialism (at least, according to many of its advocates) is to get rid of poverty. But the object of Christianity is to get rid of sin. The Gospel lays its finger on moral evil as the real mischief and misery of the world. Compared with the supreme curse of human selfishness, nothing else seriously matters. And accordingly the Gospel proposes to cure this inward malady of the soul. Herein, it stands apart from other religions. As Amiel said, “The prayer of the Buddhist is, ‘Deliver us from existence’; the prayer of the Christian is, ‘Deliver us from evil.’ ”

Brace For Impact
Last year the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart that many Christian leaders would be deceived into taking this vaccine and telling people to take them-I waited to see if this would be so. The video below confirms what was told to me.
Many Christians will be persuaded to take the vaccines, and in a short time, before the end of the year-we will see a flood of reports of many deaths, and serious side affects, and it will be too late. It boggles my mind, that any pastor would support and encourage their people to take a vaccine that is proven to contain aborted baby parts-they have become so apostate and blind, they don't know right from wrong anymore. Propaganda and lies are being fed to these people-and many are buying it-Professor Dolores Cahill in a video on my Two Sparrows site explains why people will start dying a few months after the first mRNA shot. This will be devastating. By the end of this year, there is going to be multitudes of casualties-and weeping and wailing.

knew when some the messages above were given to me to speak, that it would take years for them to be fulfilled. Some have been, some are still ongoing. But, the point to putting them here is to warn as many as possible, while there is time.

The events taking place now, as the abortion laws in New York have now legalized, and killing the baby right up to the day of birth, the ongoing tension in the Middle East and it's upheavals, the natural disasters, fires in California and other parts of the globe, and increasing signs world wide reveals the signs of Matthew ch. 24, playing out. What's going on in Texas is I believe, an intentional assault on them, by weather weapons- weather warfare. It's punishment for speaking up and considering cessation. I hope people will start learning to grow their own food as much as they can. Now, I will add something, which I have no pleasure in telling.

Last year, in the early spring, when this Covid pandemic first began- I was given a dream, and God asked me to post it.

In the dream I was standing in front of the Disneyland entrance. It was empty, the sky was dark, cloudy, and a gloomy haze was in the air. As I gazed at the arch to the entrance and the castle beyond I noticed they were abandoned buildings-shabby and dilapidated. It reminded me of videos I'd watched of abandoned shopping malls, and fun parks-it was a shambles.
Then, I noticed something that seemed out of character-like it didn't belong there-signs directing people to "vaccine distribution centers". These were in different locations as I walked the cracked, uneven sidewalks-which were damaged with age and abuse. As I kept walking, every building had evidence of being broken into, and looted. A great sadness came to my heart, as I stood taking in this site. I asked myself-"What has happened here, and why."
I awoke, and the Holy Spirit spoke to me as I laid in bed, looking in dark at the ceiling- "I will show you, in the not too distant future-you will see Disneyland a distribution center for the vaccines."

God spoke to my heart that the broken down, desolate condition of Disneyland was a sign of the condition of this nation. It represents the bankrupt and corrupt government system, and what God's viewpoint of this country is. It's not pretty.

Over the last year, and especially the last several weeks-with the military being moved into place to push this vaccine agenda-and get as many injected with this poison as possible, my heart has been wrenched as I've watched videos of some who've gotten the shot-and the side affects they now suffer-and read of those who've already died from getting them-and the elderly in nursing homes dying sometimes within hours after getting it. This government, and Big Pharma has cooked up the worst scenario this world has ever witnessed-and the worst part is-most will stand in line anxiously waiting to get it-because they believe the lies and propaganda being told to them by the media, and our so-called political leaders. If you really believe that they actually got the shots, when they were supposedly televised getting them-you are very gullible, and naïve. Biden's "dark winter"- is underway. I wonder if he is taking the position of the devils' false prophet. He certainly seems to be a form of one, and scripture tells his fate, and those who are like him-the lake of fire. I remind the devil what awaits him, and his demons-as often as I can.

As stated above-in the months to come, and by the end of this year- we will be seeing news clips and accounts of multitudes of people dying, and suffering from serious side affects that will be permanent, and will lead to untold suffering and their death-many will wish to die, because of the pain and suffering they are in. But, even as I am typing this, I already know and God has shown me-many will not listen, and many won't believe these warnings. Many around the world have already taken these vaccines and have died, and more will suffer, and die. I was given this verse to describe what is coming:

Rev 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

It may take weeks, or months for the affects of these vaccines to infect people-but when it does, they will want to die, and will suffer untold misery. There will be an escalation of hostility, violence, and lawlessness, as people watch this unfold. It will be very important to use wisdom to know when to travel anywhere, and primarily for necessary reasons.

For those who won't take them-they will suffer as well-by being ostracized, unable to buy or sell-except by stealth, and many will be driven into poverty, rendering many drowned in discouragement and depression-and suicides will get worse than they already are.

Through all of this God's people are told to look up- for our redemption draws nigh. We are very close to hearing the Trumpet blast, and the cry of angels as they proclaim the ultimate victory-and Jesus returns. When this happens, Satan will be shrieking in rage.

Jesus' victory is also ours-we need not fear death. It will be swallowed up, in His life.

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

A report of a Canadian pastor going to jail is a beginning of what's to come for many. I'm praying God's people will give the same answer- "We ought to obey God, rather than man." It's time to get a backbone-and stand strong.

The Holy Spirit gave me these verses, and a comment to put here-to describe what God thinks of the Catholic Church-
Mat 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

False Teachers

As Jesus continues in Matthew 24, telling the people the signs of the end-he speaks of false teachers and prophets in the last days, and many will be deceived. The evidence to this can be seen on all forms of media today, within many churches, and throughout the world.

Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

An excerpt from John Gill's commentary:

"And many false prophets shall rise,.... Out of, from among the churches of Christ; at least under the name of Christians; for false teachers are here meant, men of heretical principles, pretending to a spirit of prophecy, and to new revelations, and a better understanding of the Scriptures; such as Simon Magus, Ebion, and Cerinthus, who denied the proper deity, and real humanity of Christ; Carpocrates, and the Gnostics his followers, the Nicolaitans, Hymcneus, Philetus, and others:

and shall deceive many: as they all of them had their followers, and large numbers of them, whose faith was subverted by them; and who followed their pernicious ways, being imposed upon and seduced by their fair words, specious pretenses, and licentious practices.

To understand what God refers to as a false prophet, see Deuteronomy chapters 13, and 18. These chapters give clear instruction to not heed them, avoid them, and put them out of your company.

When I'm listening to a preacher or teacher- I listen, and pay attention to who he/she is lifting up, who's being glorified, and who is that speaker expounding on, as the One True God.

Jesus gives a clear explanation of Himself in this one verse:

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

You can eliminate every false teacher, or prophet-by evaluating the speaker by this verse.

This verse tells you clearly-there is no other way to the Father, or heaven, but by Jesus Christ. So, in light of this, you can listen to anybody and ask yourself-does this person exalt Christ-or himself, or anybody else.

This verse could take weeks to study-and learn the depths of who Jesus is, and what He has done for us-but the excerpts from commentaries below bring greater clarity:

I am the way, the truth, and the life. This is said in reply to Thomas. Without him there would be no Way revealed; no divine and saving truth, no immortal life.

No man cometh to the Father, but by me. Not only can no one enter the Father's house without him, but no man can come to the Father on earth so as to enjoy his favor. "There is no other name given under heaven among men whereby we must be saved." See verses below

On the day of Pentecost, Peter summed it up well-

Act 4:10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
Act 4:11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

By this plumb line-you can evaluate any teacher, or "prophet", and tell whether they are telling the truth or not.

Again from John Gill comm:

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way,.... Our Lord takes the opportunity of this discourse about the place he was going to, and the way unto it, more fully to instruct his disciples concerning himself, saying, "I am the way"; Christ is not merely the way, as he goes before his people as an example; or merely as a prophet, pointing out unto them by his doctrine the way of salvation; but he is the way of salvation itself by his obedience and sacrifice; nor is there any other; he is the way of his Father's appointing, and which is entirely agreeable to the perfections of God, and suitable to the case and condition of sinners; he is the way to all the blessings of the covenant of grace; and he is the right way into a Gospel church state here; no one comes rightly into a church of Christ but by faith in him; and he is the way to heaven: he is entered into it himself by his own blood, and has opened the way to it through himself for his people: he adds,

The truth- he is not only true, but truth itself: this may regard his person and character; he is the true God, and eternal life; truly and really man; as a prophet he taught the way of God in truth; as a priest, he is a faithful, as well as a merciful one, true and faithful to him that appointed him; and as a King, just and true are all his ways and administrations: he is the sum and substance of all the truths of the Gospel; they are all full of him, and center in him; and he is the truth of all the types and shadows, promises and prophecies of the Old Testament; they have all their accomplishment in him; and he is the true way, in opposition to all false ones of man's devising. And this phrase seems to be opposed to a notion of the Jews, that the law was the true way of life, and who confined truth to the law. They have a saying (r), that משה ותורתו אמת, "Moses and his law are the truth"; this they make Korah and his company say in hell. That the law of Moses was truth, is certain; but it is too strong an expression to say of Moses himself, that he was truth; but well agrees with Christ, by whom grace and truth came in opposition to Moses, by whom came the law: but when they say (s), אין אמת אלא תורה, "there is no truth but the law", they do not speak truth. More truly do they speak, when, in answer to that question, מה אמת, "what is truth?" it is said, that he is the living God, and King of the world (t), characters that well agree with Christ.

And the life: Christ is the author and giver of life, natural, spiritual, and eternal; or he is the way of life, or "the living way"; in opposition to the law, which was so far from being the way of life, that it was the ministration of condemnation and death: he always, and ever will be the way; all in this way live, none ever die; and it is a way that leads to eternal life: and to conclude all the epithets in one sentence, Christ is the true way to eternal life It is added by way of explanation of him, as the way, no man cometh unto the Father but by me; Christ is the only way of access unto the Father; there is no coming to God as an absolute God, not upon the foot of the covenant of works, nor without a Mediator; and the only Mediator between God and man is Christ: he introduces and presents the persons and services of his people to his Father, and gives them acceptance with him."

My time is precious to me, and the older I get the more I realize I have none to waste on listening to error, and those who want to promote themselves, or some other false god. I stay close to the bible, that is the final word to me. If the person I'm listening to doesn't show me that they are solid in the word of God, I turn away from them, for the sake of my soul.

Jesus said narrow is the way that leads to life-and few there be who find it; and broad is the way to destruction, and many that go that way. We are seeing that played out in multitudes today. It's sad to watch, when I realize how unnecessary it is-the world chooses darkness rather than the light of the gospel, and the darkness we are in now-is very great.

In these last days, God's people need to stay in His word, and pray that we be not led down the path of destruction, that so many are on now. The time is short and Jesus is at the door. But, whether He comes in our lifetime-or we go by way of the grave, we need to heed His warnings. Our eternal soul depends on it. I do not want to miss heaven, by following the devil's pied pipers that are leading people to hell.

The Deception of Reiki-

People who are practicing Reiki are generally deceived and unaware that they are calling upon spirits when sending Reiki or initiating others. Reikians invite spirits or demons by means of drawing the Japanese symbol of the specific demon and invite them by calling their name three times, thus sending Reiki energy to someone. Or by means of the same symbols, initiating someone spiritually into Reiki by ritually opening accesses for these spirits so the flow of the Reiki energy can come through.

Reikians are deceived by the manifestations and personal wellbeing in the short term, but they are not aware of the implications of sin and the wrath of God and demonic legal grounds, until their mental or physical health breaks down. (2 Cor 4:3-4)

The saddest thing concerning this is that many Christians are involved in Reiki, thinking it is harmless, and another way to achieve healing, and the good feelings they desire. Many Christians do not read their bibles, and do not exercise discernment in getting themselves involved in these dangerous practices. Reiki, which is another aspect of yoga, has become a cancer in the body of Christ, and I see greater dangers coming for those who do not study to know what scripture teaches us about these practices.

Not Peace, but a Sword

The world now fits the description Jesus gives in these verses. Here in the U.S., there's surveillance camera's on the corner and roof of just about every town and city, to watch and track your every move.
You are spied on in your house through your devices, the TV, computer, and sound systems-radios and stereos. You are even listened to through the house wiring, and lamps. Every vehicle you buy now-has tracking and listening devices in them, and you are tracked everywhere you go-whether you like it or not. China is the worst for this, and their social rating system-but we are not far behind, and our government is changing the laws to take away every freedom we have left, and we have allowed it.

I found out when I was writing a book last year, and storing my work on my computer, that it was being hacked into by many, both here in my area and those on their own platforms who have internet channels, and other ministries. Integrity in this system is gone-and if people can hack into what you are doing, and exploit what you do, or find out anything they can to destroy you-they will do it; if they don't like you. And, why buy a book, when you can steal it. Those who do this, know all the ways to cover their rear-ends, pretend it's not going on, and play innocent. But, all is open to the eyes of God.

I have to remind myself-this world crucified Jesus. You can expect the same thing. This world system is owned by the devil, and most who run it.

In this Covid pandemic-people have become increasingly of this nature-willing to "snitch" on their neighbor's, friends, and people in public- over the lockdown restrictions, not wearing masks, making the hardships worse. These scriptures are now being seen coming to pass, in a measure, and gives a glimpse of what it will be like during the Tribulation period. Reaping What Has Been Sown

Godlessness in the Last Days
2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

The verses above describe the day we live in today well.

When I took care of seniors some of them told me of horrific things they endured from young kids in their late teens-who would assault them, some who had been robbed, their homes broken into, and abuses they went through from thugs who were drunk/on drugs, and high from partying. If the elderly got in the way-they paid for it. They said they learned to not say anything. The retaliation they knew they'd get, they tried to avoid. The only reason they'd tell me, was because now, they were in a place where they felt safe.

Now I'm a senior and have gotten a taste of the same things as the seniors I took care of, but I've still got enough backbone left, to speak up and push back. This post isn't just for me-it's for those who remain invisible if they can-to stay away from the young punks who think they own the world-and if you are in the way, they will try to run you over.

Maybe somebody reading this-can relate to it. There's plenty of these cases on the news- BLM, Antifa, and those who feel they have the right to set peoples homes, businesses, and cars on fire-burn the flag, and if they can-take everything you've got. They make no bones about it-if you have something they want-they will take it.

A wise pastor's wife told me once, "You will find, that is impossible to teach anyone-who shuts their ears, and their minds-and refuses to hear. Jesus told us by His own example many times- "you are dull of hearing, and cannot understand my words." He was teaching us, what we would face by many in our work, in this life." She was very right.

Scripture teaches us in verse 5 to avoid people like this-this is the best thing to do, and as much as possible, live in peace; in spite of them.

One day, all will stand before Him, and give an account for our behavior-think about it.

The more I see here now, the more I am thankful for the up-bringing my parents gave us. We were brought up to respect our elders, and leave them alone; to respect other peoples property, and their dignity. This world now is a very dark, and dangerous place.

Without this faith there could be no thought of anything like education; when this faith is elevated to a trust in God and His promises, it grows into the assurance that a parent’s labour will not be in vain in the Lord.

The Parents
“The Lord hath given the father honor over the children, and hath confirmed the authority of the mother over the sons,” says Ecclesiasticus. It is a rare opportunity which is given to parents. No sphere of influence which they may acquire can be like it; other spheres may be wider, but they can never be so intense or so decisive.

1. To govern their children, parents must first be able to govern themselves. A large part of parental discipline must consist in rewards and punishments. God’s government is full of them. Every act of obedience to His law is rewarded; every act to disobedience is punished. But the Divine punishments are administered without a tinge of passion. When parents punish children, it is often only bad temper at work. A child by his fretful ways makes the house a purgatory until his mother’s patience is exhausted.

The way to train the child is to train yourself. What you are, he will be. If your hands are morally dirty, his life will be dirtied by the home handling he gets. If he is to obey his mother he must breathe in a spirit of obedience from his mother. Your child will never obey more than you do. The spirit of disobedience in your heart to God, of failure to obey, of preferring your own way to God’s, will be breathed in by your child as surely as he breathes the air into his lungs. A spirit of quiet confidence in God, in the practical things that pinch and push, will breathe itself into the child. A poised spirit, a keen mind, a thoughtful tongue, a cheery hopefulness, an earnest purpose, in mother and father will be taken into the child’s being with every breath. And the reverse is just as true. Every child is an accurate bit of French-plate faithfully showing the likeness of mother and father and home. 2. A successful parent will be one who makes the training of the children a constant and religious study. It is the last subject in the world to be left to haphazard. From the first a clear aim must be kept in view. “Is my great object that this boy shall be a true, a noble, a God-fearing man, serving his day and generation in the way God shall appoint?” That is the question which the parent puts to himself.

Among the Bishop’s obiter dicta on education is the following:—“The old heathens had very right notions about the way in which a child ought to be trained up. They had great belief in a pure domestic education. One of them said, ‘Let nothing unclean ever enter into the house where a little child is,’ no drunken man, no quarrelling father or mother, no bad language, no careless, slovenly habits; let nothing of the sort be seen in the house where dwells the little child. A Roman poet has said, ‘The greatest possible reverence is due to a child.’ Some parents are wonderfully careless about what sort of things they say before their children. They seem to forget that the little children are listening, and that their characters are being formed by ten thousand insensible influences that surround them day by day.”1 [Note: J. W. 3. Parents must live near to God if they are to make God real to their children. A mother must hold very real converse with her Lord if His reality is to become obvious to her little ones. “As a child,” says one, “I have had a feeling that God and Jesus were such particular friends of mamma’s, and were honored more than words could tell.” If such an impression is to be created, depend upon it God and Jesus must be particular friends of ours. No talk, however pious, can create that impression unless the hallowed friendship actually exists.

Mrs. Haldane [the mother of James and Robert Haldane, who did so much for evangelical religion in Scotland at the beginning of the nineteenth century] belonged to a family in which there had been much true religion. “She lived,” said her eldest son, “very near to God, and much grace was given to her.” When left a widow, it became her chief concern to bring up her children “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” From their infancy she labored to instill into their minds a sense of the importance of eternity, particularly impressing upon them the necessity of prayer, and teaching them to commit to memory and understand psalms, portions of the Shorter Catechism, and of Scripture. In a memorandum found among his papers, her youngest son James says: “My mother died when I was very young, I believe under six, yet I am convinced that the early impression made on my mind by her care was never entirely effaced; and to this, as an eminent means in the hand of God, I impute any serious thoughts which, in the midst of my folly would sometimes intrude upon my mind, as well as that still small voice of conscience which afterwards led me to see that all below was vanity without an interest in that inheritance which can never fade away.” He adds: “I mention this more particularly because it may lead Christian parents to sow in hope the seed of Divine truth in the minds of their children, and may prevent their considering their efforts unavailing even where the things which they have taught seem to have been uttered in vain. 4. Without love in the home, all the parents’ efforts will fail. Love is the only atmosphere in which the spirits of little children can grow. Without it the wisest precepts only choke, and the best-prepared knowledge proves innutritious. It must be a large love, a wise love, an inclusive love, such as God alone can shed abroad in the heart. Love of that kind is very frequently found in “huts where poor men lie,” and consequently the children issuing out of them have been better trained than those whose parents have handed them over to loveless tutors or underlings.

Perhaps there is no criterion by which to estimate a Christian’s life and influence so just, so simple, so ungainsayable, as that of the fruits of his faith and of his works in his own family. It is a quality of virtue, as truly as it is of sin, to reproduce itself! And there is no soil so favorable for the manifestation of a man’s graces as that of his home. He is master of the situation. His sway is almost unlimited. He can plant what he will, and very largely destroy what displeases him. To leave the best soil to itself is sufficient to ensure an abundant crop of weeds. But of what use is the gardener unless he uproots and replaces them with flowers? This is his business. That he can, with care, succeed, is aptly illustrated in the family history of Mrs. Booth. She commanded her children, and insisted on their obeying God, till obedience to His will developed into a blessed habit. It became early easier to be holy than to be sinful, to do good than to do evil, to sacrifice than to enjoy. The children could not fail to imbibe the lessons learnt from the lips and lives of their parents.
