Hawaiians are forced to go around all the rules and guidelines set up by these "disaster relief" companies just to get food and water and clothes to their families stuck there. Whereas all the tourists and "rich" people who lived there were the first to be catered too and given clothes food and shelter. All the donations made from Maui and other islands went to the tourists and rich first before they made it to the local families. How is that even fair? I've worked with the elderly for many years, and in those years dealt with some seniors who were abused, and harassed by troublemakers, now I'm dealing with it at times. The only time most people will decide to face the problems like this-is when they are being targeted and harassed themselves, that's the only time it matters to them. It is also for those who are dealing with the same problems brought up in the post below-and won't speak up, because they don't want to deal with the backlash that often comes if you do. I'm not afraid, and will speak up. It takes courage and being willing to take people's criticism to stand against this. I did it for other's who may read this, and are going through the same problems too. If you can't or won't understand this, one day, you may find yourself dealing with this, and won't have a choice about it. If anyone had told me I'd ever be dealing with what I've had done and said to me by people in the years I've lived here-most of them people I've never met before, and couldn't tell you their names, I would never have believed it. Nor would I have ever believed I'd be dealing with the numerous incidents of intentional harassment-right in front of my house. Those who do this, have no remorse or conscience, and if confronted they will lie, and twist the truth to cover their actions. I do have a witness to the incidents, I'm not the only one who's seen, and heard what's gone on. Before censorship got as bad as it is now- Youtube had many videos of real stories of senior abuses, and incidents of elder abuse in families-most of them have been taken down, and the news very rarely covers this topic now-they only do when it's necessary. Many times the stories they do allow to stay up-are carefully scripted, and cut and pasted, to send the message of a happy ending. Many times, this is not the case in real life. I've noticed there is a blackout again in the media on this subject-and it's no surprise, because they are just as guilty of the surveillance tactics listed below, and do it all the time; that includes the so-called "Christian" platforms and media-they hack into your computers, and tap into your house and phones too, for their own benefit, and to see what dirt they can find that they can use against you, or make something up. They won't report on it-because they are doing it themselves. I've learned the best way to deal with the attacks of the devil-is confront it with the truth head on. If I was afraid, I'd do what most people do- pretend it's not happening, or let the thugs get away with it, or make excuses for them. Information and Videos on The Problem of Targeting and Harassment-A Major Problem Today Information from: Individual with a Masters in Human Services & Criminal Justice (college major), Liberty University: What’s the smartest course of action when some of your neighbors harass you and continuously try to intimidate you? Start by researching the legal definitions of harassment and intimidation, stalking, etc. If their actions fall into those definitions, I would immediately do everything else listed. Gather evidence, as others suggested for whatever steps you can take, either civilly or criminally. You may attempt to get a restraining order because its free but: A restraining order can only be granted with decent evidence, so its essential that you gather texts, photos, social media posts, videos, witnesses. You can opt to retain an attorney whereby you can sue for harassment, intimidation, stalking, or whatever the claim. —But first, the attorney can put them on notice that their actions are subject to you pursuing litigation. Likely they won't have the money to defend themselves , so the notice may be enough to stop their insecure behavior towards you. If they are tenants, have your attorney contact the landlord and not only inform of tenants behavior but inform them that landlord may be liable if tenants carry out any threats after landlord has been warned of tenant action. Contact your city's code compliance, in many jurisdictions, residents who continually interfere with the peaceful enjoyment of neighboring properties are considered a nuisance property and can be fined or have other consequences. You'll want to research this since it can actually carry some weight. Similarly, research any city codes they might be breaking so they are made accountable for their behavior by code compliance, animal control, etc. Illegal activities need to be reported to the police every time. Set up security cameras to be your eyes and ears. (Lowes has great deals if you buy 2 Ring security cameras at a time.) Use the footage for documentation! Make your presence known- relax in a lounge chair in your front yard so you show you're not going to bothered by their harassment, or antagonism. Also, don't get angry when they do harass- they’ll think they’ve gotten you. Don't do anything illegal, don’t lower yourself to their level. Stay on the legal side of the law so your case remains strong. If you've done anything illegal towards them, you will lose credibility and likely your whole case. Add to the report that you can provide media to support your claim upon request. As far as any interaction with your neighbor goes —-don’t. Just don’t. The less you say, the less ammo the jerk has against you. Don’t lose your temper, or send anything threatening or even non-threatening in writing or otherwise. You want to be seen as the quiet, stable, sane one here. So just, yeah, be careful with what you put out there. If they are calling or texting, then you’ll want to send one text only. In writing, tell this person to not contact you. Tell them that any further contact will be considered harassment, and that you are prepared to take legal action. That’s it. Nothing more. Can’t say that to somebody then refuse to go back and forth with them. Remain silent, and collect your evidence. However-You may have a situation like mine-that the police will not respond, or you find the police are complicit and don't enforce the laws, leaving you to deal with the issues on your own- in this case the best thing to do is-Do not react or respond to their bullying, or harassment, it only feeds their egos, and it will keep them going with the antagonism. Ignore them, act like they don't even exist, this is the best thing you can do; for yourself. Continue to live your life as you've always done, do not allow them to stop your private life, or cause you to alter your daily routine-don't give them the satisfaction of ruining your personal activities, or social life.
