For years now, I've watched this governments response to storms, fires, disasters like this. I've listened to citizen reports from many of them- Katrina, the Paradise fires in California, and other major fires and seen the suspicious footage of incinerated houses, I've seen video footage of how these weather warfare storms are created, and the devastation they cause. This storm is another case of DEW, directed energy weapons used to target and destroy entire regions. Helene is the most recent case. The despicable statements, and response by Biden and Harris speaks for itself. There's plenty of money and resources to send to Ukraine, and other places in the world-but not to the citizens of this country. May they get their just rewards. This country is under judgment, and this, and the events of the last several years, is evidence of it. Are the people getting on their knees, and calling out to God in repentance? I don't see it. There's much talk of communities helping each other, and coming together-but they don't get the real problem. God's hand of protection has lifted from this country-and more devastation is coming. My heart is grieved watching this, but, the warnings, and calls to them to look up to the Lord Jesus, and repenting of their sins-is never mentioned. This, is what it would take for this country to recover, and become great again. It's not going to happen. America Refused to Repent Jer 5:1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
Jer 5:2 And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely. Jer 5:3 O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. Jer 5:4 Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God. Jer 5:5 I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds. Jer 5:6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased. Jer 5:7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses. Jer 5:8 They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife. Jer 5:9 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? Rom 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. Rom 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Rom 3:13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Rom 3:14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Rom 3:15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: Rom 3:16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: Rom 3:17 And the way of peace have they not known: Rom 3:18 There is no fear of God before their eyes. As a nation: - This completes their bad character; they are atheists, at least practically such. They fear not God’s judgments, although his eye is upon them in their evil ways. Psa 36:1 The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. Psa 36:2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful. Psa 36:3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good. Psa 36:4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil. The judgments Jeremiah proclaimed on Israel centuries ago-apply to all nations that forget God, and forsake Him, this is where America is today: Jer 5:14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them. Jer 5:15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say. Jer 5:16 Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men. Jer 5:17 And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword. Jer 5:18 Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you. Jer 5:19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours. Jer 5:20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying, Jer 5:21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: Jer 5:22 Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it? Jer 5:23 But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. Jer 5:24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest. Jer 5:25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you. Jer 5:26 For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. Jer 5:27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich. Jer 5:28 They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge. Jer 5:29 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? Jer 5:30 A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; Jer 5:31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

This rant is going to touch on the subject of influence-and how it's being presented and used as a tool in ministry today, for people to achieve success and a following-but, what is the real purpose and goal? Is it out of sincere love and devotion to Christ, or self-gratification. I believe watching people and what they do, speaks louder than their words. I'm going to touch on some truth about this, because it needs to be said. I know it won't be popular, but I'm to concerned with being popular.
In Christian ministry today, a lot is said about the power of influence in the preacher/teacher, and there's limitless books, people on the internet, and media celebrities who teach on this subject. Many of them travel across the country giving lectures on how to learn to become a person of influence, to be able to persuade people to follow you, listen to your advice, purchase your books, and gain peoples respect. The techniques, and advice is also without limit. Whatever the subject your into, there's somebody out there that's talking and counseling on it, on how to make yourself a success. The things this world strives for has continued to filter into the church to the degree that there's little difference between the world and the Church. Jesus said it would be this way, in the latter days. When Jesus came into the world, John the Baptist called him the Lamb of God, who came to take away the sins of the world. That process is still going on to this day. In John ch. 21, scripture says of Jesus: Joh 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Of all the people of the world, Jesus' power of influence, because He was filled with the Holy Spirit without measure, and had no limit. But, though this was true-did everybody love him, did everybody follow him because they believed in Him, did everybody desire what He was preaching and teaching? No. Many times in the gospels we see Jesus discerned people's hearts and intentions, that they were following him, asking questions, and watching him to tempt, trap him in his words, to see if they could accuse him of a wrong teaching or action. The Pharisee's, lawyers, and leaders were constantly seeking to trap him, and finally contrived a plan with Judas that brought Jesus' death on the cross. In the end, as Jesus stood before Pilate and faced his interrogations, and was displayed to the crowd outside-not one person in the world was willing to stand with Jesus, not even Peter. He was alone and abandoned. He faced the cross and death alone, and suffered and died for you and I, to redeem us from our sins. All the healings and teachings he gave as he traveled the roads throughout the region did nothing to gain the influence of the people who followed him, or received the power of healing virtue that came from him, or deliverance from demonic oppression. His life, and death in the bible shows us very clearly, what this world thinks of God, or goodness, or influence. This world killed the Son of God, it will do the same to anybody else, if you step out of line, or lose your reputation; which can happen very quickly. But, as Jesus faced his cross alone, not long after, each of the disciples took up their crosses and followed the risen Christ, and all but John faced their martyrdom also. This world gave them the same treatment as their Savior. All of us who choose Christ, have to face this possibility, and deal with it in our own hearts. What Jesus taught them over and over when he was with them, He teaches us also, if we are truly following Him. But, in today's world, there's much more temptations, toys, idols, and false teachers to put stumbling blocks in your way, and lead you down the path of destruction. In most churches, and media ministries the expensive suits, the lavish lifestyles, amount of certificates on your walls, degrees on your walls, the people your associated with, is all part of the game, and proves your level of achievement in the realm of ministry. None of it has anything to do with the measure of sincerity of faith in Christ, or His calling on a life, but this is what the world believes. When Jesus taught the disciples, and us, he showed what would happen when we chose him is this: Mat 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. Mat 10:17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; Mat 10:18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. Mat 10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. Mat 10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. Mat 10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. Mat 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Add to this: Joh 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. Joh 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. See also: Joh_15:23-25, Joh_3:20, Joh_7:7; 1Ki_22:8; Isa_49:7, Isa_53:3; Zec_11:8; Mat_5:11, Mat_10:22; Mat_24:9; Mar_13:13; Luk_6:22; Heb_12:2; Jas_4:4; 1Jn_3:1, 1Jn_3:3, 1Jn_3:13 There's enough in the verses above, and references to make the point that they reveal, that what ministry has turned into today-is diametrically opposed to the gospel that Jesus taught-and that those who follow supposed "successful" ministers-are no proof that they are following Christ Himself. When I listen to a preacher/teacher-I'm not interested in how beautiful your smile is, your expensive clothes, your cars, mansions, how many people are following you, or the sales pitches that teach people how to be successful and full of happiness in this life. I'm listening to hear what life experiences you've got that match what scripture teaches on the subject. Do you know how to stand for Christ, and defend the gospel? Do you have the boldness to stand for righteousness, and call out sin when it needs to be confronted? Do you know how to rightly divide the word of God, that makes sense to the everyday person, or are you trying to impress people with a confusing gospel that makes everybody happy in their sins? We've got enough of that today, we don't need anymore Joel Osteen's, or Rick Warren's. How can anybody know if the gospel they are hearing is the right one? Pick up your bibles and read them yourself, take it to every meeting you go to, or listen to on the internet. Check everything somebody says, with what the bible says about it. If it doesn't add up, walk away from it. It's not worth losing your soul by following a false teacher/preacher today. Why have I said this? Because for the many years I've been doing this, it keeps growing, and getting worse. Most people, even Christians, do not read their bibles, nor do they pray. But, when a crisis happens, or they are faced with a situation dealing with critical problems, God may come up in their conversation, and they believe God will always accept everything they decide to do-even if it goes directly against His written word. They prove they do not know Him, when they do this. On a cold day in March of 1978, at the age of 25, I was alone in my livingroom, and had just finished reading a book that described clearly and simply the life and purpose of why Jesus came to the earth, what his death accomplished, and why it was important for me personally. That His death purchased my soul from the grips of Satan and hell, if I would turn to Him, and repent and choose to follow Him. As I sat there alone, the manifest presence of God filled my house, I knew He was there with me. I heard His voice within my soul, and directly outside me audibly "Lorna, will you turn and come home." My heart was wrenched- I said "Lord, I've done so many things wrong, if you would forgive me, I know your real, and know you are God, will you come into my life and help me live for you." Immediately, His presence covered me, like a blanket, that came down over me, and has remained to this day. The rest is a long story. My book "The NightWatchman" is available for anyone who would like to read it-the link is on the right column. It is also in an Ebook on it's own page above-just click the page to view and read. Note: Some may question if this event was a true salvation, I'll add this to clarify any questions about this. That very night, I was delivered from alcoholism, the details are in my book. I was saved on a Monday. Two days later, after reading the book of Revelation 3 times, the Lord spoke to my heart to begin to go to a Friday night prayer and praise meeting my neighbors were leading in their home, right next door to me, so I went the next Friday meeting, before the week was over. When I went the people leading it were ecstatic, and said they had been praying for my salvation for months. I began attending the meetings every week. They were man and wife who were leading the meetings, and she began talking to me about being baptized. I had been baptized in a Methodist church when I was in high school, but in my heart I knew it was probably not legitimate, because I knew I hadn't been saved yet-when you are saved, the Spirit of God witnesses to you, whether it's really right or not. So I began to pray about this. The couple leading the meetings scheduled a baptism they were going to have at their pond, and that any who desired to be baptized could do so then. I felt the Lord speaking to me, that it was his will for me to do this, but, that He would change the location to my own pond on our land. I thought this was a big question, because Lynn-my husband, wasn't saved yet. I talked to him about it that night, and I was surprised to hear him say he'd be all for it, and go ahead and ask the group to plan on it being at our house. I brought this up the next at the next Friday meeting, and the couple were happy about it, and said "Let's do it". So, a few months later on July 12, 1978, I was baptized by two elders, men who led the meetings, along with 13 other's in my own pond, and we had a luncheon celebration right after. The 13 other's and many of their family members were there, and it lasted the entire day. I had designed and made the baptism certificates the leaders gave to each one to keep as proof of their water baptism in Christ. Oddly enough, the Lord worked it out that a month before this-I had attended a women's fellowship meeting in Burlington Vt. with the woman who led the Friday meetings. This was a large meeting of several hundred women and men. It was at this meeting, I received the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Both of the couple who led the meetings brought out how God does not stay in any box that people try to put Him in-He will do what He chooses, in His time, not ours. Over the years, God has shown and manifested His reality to me many times, and many ways. But, He's never condoned me when I've fallen into sin, or excused me. He's convicted me, and dealt with me, and disciplined me, and restored me. Like David, Peter, Paul, and many other's in scripture, He's still working with me daily-and He's shown me He is faithful to forgive, and when He forgives, He forgets. His forgiveness, is not like the world's- it's real, and it's dependable. But, back to influence. In the many hours of studying God's word, I've learned a deeper, clearer aspect of what God considers influence with integrity. It has nothing to do with money, or success. It has everything to do with truth, honesty, sincerity, discipline applied to situations with wisdom tempered by love, and righteousness in daily life. God's not impressed with how much money you've got, or how many people follow you. He's looking into your spirit, your soul, and He will test you-to see what's in you. Everything that's dangled in front of you that appears to be a wonderful opportunity, isn't from Him. I've also learned this through the years. You may gain millions of dollars in what your doing, but if it's not coming from Him, and your out of His will- you'll be miserable. When you study the book of Proverbs, you'll read of those who live like this, and it's worth the time to study, and learn to discern the devils temptations. The stands I've made, and the teachings I've given over the years in numerous places has not gained me any popularity. The scripture's I've taught on and the points I've emphasized have proven to be as John said-an ax laid to the root of the tree. I've received mostly the same thing as Paul, mockery, gnashing of teeth, and rejection. If I heeded people's behavior, I wouldn't be doing this now. But when you know God's told you to do something, if you love Him, you'll get up and keep going. When I think of influence I remind myself of some truth's about Jesus, and meditate on His life, and spend more time in the gospels, and his teachings. His words are life, they have power to renew, restore, and give the needed courage and strength to pick up the cross, and follow on with Him. Shortly before his death Paul made a statement I go back to, and remind myself; this is all that really matters: 2Ti 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 2Ti 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. In closing, I've been criticized for using commentaries in the devotions I post on this site, and the twosparrows.org site, and some people claim I use them because I don't read or study the bible myself. I've been a serious student of the bible for over 40 years, and do most of it with a real bible in front of me, not just on the internet. I've done untold numbers of teachings and devotions to this point, and used my own study materials for them. But a couple of years ago, the Holy Spirit prompted me to start studying certain bible scholar's commentaries from past generations-some over 150 yrs., and to see what they could show me, in their studies. At first it was hard going, because their manner of speech was Old World style, but, the more I delved into them, the more I came away seeing the sincerity, the depth of understanding, the wisdom, and the fact that their writings had real spiritual food in them, that was still just as "alive" as the day they wrote them. I believed God was showing me that these men and women's commentaries needed to be brought up to the 21st century-and let the Holy Ghost use them again, to bring inspiration and teaching to those who may have the patience and desire to truly come to know God on a deeper level. I know this means that their won't be many, but I'm not interested in numbers, I'm interested in souls who are truly hungry for God, and want to know Him and His eternal existence. I found many of these people's commentaries held a depth of faith, that isn't found much today. If that means most will never understand or agree, I'm willing to let the majority misunderstand. For the few who get what I'm saying, I believe the Lord has you in mind. I'm going to continue to use commentaries in my devotions as the Lord leads, and let Him sift out those who would rather see different material. There's plenty of other sites that you can go to, if your not happy here. Now, I'll let a few graphics add to the points I've made here, and let the reader take it to prayer. Lorna Couillard This may be the only post I put on this page, but, there's things I'm going to say that doesn't really belong on the News page of this site. There's going to be statements made that are relevant to these end time days, and personal statements. The title of the page defines it's purpose. The main subject of this comes from observations I've made over the years that's getting worse, and being a bible teacher and watchman, I'm going to bring it up and give my perspective on it. It won't be popular with many. There's a great many TV, Youtube, and media prophets today, from all walks of life. It takes a keen eye, and discerning spirit, to see through the motives, and ambitions of most of them. I've been serving the Lord long enough that I can catch what their hearts really are, within a few minutes of listening to them. Other's, it takes a little more time. Sometimes I end up deleting something from them here, if I learn I was wrong and find they are charlatans, and prophets of Baal. Some Christian's in leadership say there's no place for emotions in giving presentations of teachings, or prophetic messages. I disagree. Yes, it can be a sign of a personality out of balance-but not always. It doesn't phase me if I listen someone who has passion in their voice, if it's real, and comes from the heart with conviction. A seasoned mature leader, with strong biblical background, can be moved by the Holy Spirit with emotion in presenting what God gives, and those who hear and see this, will recognize the work of God in that person, to bring the message God's given to them. Your spirit will witness to the sincerity and truth of it. God's not looking for people who've polished their performance to the point that they can be in front of a TV screen, or Youtube video presentation, keep a smile on their face and be applauded like an actor on stage. God's not interested in someone who's flat lined their emotions and their voice like an AI robot. If you take the time to read and study the Old Testament prophets, and what they went through, and how they presented what God gave to them, you'll get a better picture of what God's looking for today. He hasn't changed, He's looking for authenticity, and those who are willing to pay the cost for saying what God's given to them. They aren't perfect, but they are walking in righteousness, and when they make mistakes, they repent, get back up and go on with the Lord. Hezekiah would get so mad at the corrupt priests of his day, he pulled their beards out. He'd never have a chance today, with the media prophets out there, nor would Amos, who had no time to polish his public image. Who God calls is someone who knows God, knows His word, and knows how to discern right from wrong, what is evil, and the courage to speak up and say it's evil, and expose it, and not be swayed by public opinions, or money. Now I'm going to say something just about nobody will like, I don't care. I've been black balled by the TV preachers, and big Youtube people for a long time, and falsely accused of many things by them. But, I'm still here, because I know who called me, and I know who I serve, Christ Jesus is the one I answer to, and He's here, and He's proven Himself to me enough times that I know I'm walking in His ways, and I have no fear of those who've made themselves my enemies. God will take care of them, I'll just do what God's given to me, and leave them to Him. When you listen to any preacher, or prophet who's main goal is fund raising for community action programs, vacations, trips for sightseeing, and vague ministry causes that can be disguised in such a way that you really can't put your finger on where the money is going-be suspicious. Watch and listen to the content of their prophetic messages, who is it promoting, and what is it promoting. Is this prophet speaking with a bible in front of them, do they preach with their own notes, their own personal thoughts and imaginations? Scripture says let every word be established by two or three witnesses. When I post anything prophetically here on this site, it's with two or three other examples of scripture backing it up, and several news accounts doing the same. If someone is giving a prophetic message, who is being given the glory, the Lord Jesus Christ-or man? Lastly, when I listen to anybody giving a prophetic message, then ending it by talking about the money they are asking for to support them, this is a red flag to me. In the years I've walked with the Lord, the prophetic messages he's given to me were proven over time, but I was never told to ask for money for doing it, nor would I agree to take any for them. There's no price high enough for a personal message from the God of the universe-they are priceless. If I post anything from someone else here-it may be because of just one specific thing that was said, that the Lord has let me know He wants seen. God may use someone just once, to get a message out. I'm going to post this teaching below, that can help you discern how to know a false prophet, or teacher in these dangerous days we are living in. We are on the very edge of the end of days, and Jesus is about to return. Only the Father knows the day and hour, but, it is very near. Jesus warned us to beware of false teachers and false prophets in the last days, because there's so many of them, and with media today-it goes around the world instantly. Don't be fooled, be willing to let the Lord guide you, and protect you, and learn to use right discernment. God be with us, as the days become more evil. Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Mat 24:25 Behold, I have told you before. Mat 24:26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. Mat 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Mat 24:28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Prophets-Their Call Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. Dan 2:20-22 When God calls someone as a prophet, there's basic truths that exist in that call, that will be brought out here, because there is so much false teaching, and deception in this area. As to the controversy whether there are prophets today-go to the book of Acts, and study it carefully. There are several named there, one being Agabus. So, yes, there are prophets today, but, be careful-test the spirits.
Act_11:28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar. Act_21:10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. Now-this will really get some people riled up, it's also recorded in Acts of 4 virgin women who prophesied-the daughters of Phillip the evangelist: Act 21:8 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him. Act 21:9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. When a prophet is given the task to give a message that speaks of raising up kings, leaders, or specific individuals, there's no personal agenda or gain for the servant giving the message-they are doing it in obedience to what God's given them to do. Once the message has been given, the messenger has no more responsibility for what happens. The messenger also has nothing to do with what kind of person they are, who God raises up to be a king or leader of a nation; that is God's business. That king may be a godly person, but not necessarily. It's important to understand these aspects of God, and His working. In chapter 2 Nebuchadnezzar had a dream he couldn't interpret, and called Daniel to seek his understanding of it, I suggest reading the entire verses of chapter two. In verse 21 Daniel made a very important statement: Dan 2:21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings - He has absolute control over all the sovereigns of the earth, to place on the throne whom he will, and to remove them when he pleases. This was doubtless suggested to Daniel, and was made the foundation of this portion of his hymn of praise, from what he was permitted to see in the disclosures made to him in the interpretation of the dream. Time, duration, succession are His, and under His dominion. It is in the course of his providence that one king is put down, and another raised up. He can distinctly tell what he has purposed to do in the great empires of the earth. Realizing this, if a prophet is called by God to speak out regarding a leader, and give an advance message of God's call on that person-they know they are simply to obey and speak it out, and then leave it in God's hands, as to the time or purpose of it happening. God uses the wicked also, for his own purposes. He raises up anyone He chooses, to achieve His over-all will in the earth. The prophet only sees bits and pieces of the plan, and must depend on God alone, to just give what is given him to say, and accept the results. Whether they are rejected or not, doesn't matter. They are not to add to, or take away what is given to them, only speak what the Spirit of God gives them, then leave it in God's hands. In the next verse Daniel goes further: Dan 2:22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. What is conveyed in this verse is; The actions and schemes of men committed in darkness, the thoughts of men's hearts in the night seasons, are in full view of God. Those areas which no light seems to shine and is concealed from man in the literal darkness of night, but to all that is mysterious; all that lies beyond the range of human inquiry; all that pertains to unseen worlds-are in full view of His eyes. An immensely large portion of the universe lies wholly beyond the range of human investigation at present, and is, of course, dark to man. Even there-God dwells, and God, who is light, reveals what is in the darkness, and reveals it's truth's to those who He chooses to reveal them. God requires commitment, obedience and sacrifice in His service: Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it? Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. Amos was a desert prophet, rude in speech and clothing, with a keen eye that discerned the corruption and moral decay of his day. He would be seen in the category of the street preacher today. His proclamations to the corrupt priests and leaders of his day was met with disdain, "Thy threats, O Amos, are as noisy nothings. They are meaningless and terrorless." Amos saw through their arrogant attitude of being "children of privilege", favored and secure in their positions, while living in deceit and delusion. He witnessed their lives of self appointed positions and bribery. Any service they gave to God, was lip service. Amos' cry to their streets “Can two walk together...?” cries the prophet . “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” If there is to be helpful and intimate companionship between two people, there must be profound agreement, and if I am to enjoy the companionship of the great God, with all that that companionship means of sheltering grace, if God and I are to walk together, we must be agreed, and my part of the agreement must be faithful and unconditional obedience to all His revealed will. This example teaches several truths of a prophet: 1. The prophet, admitted to know the secrets of God, is bound to utter them. 2. He is a arbiter or judge between heaven and earth. Aware of danger, he will give the message regardless; he cannot do otherwise, without being disobedient. 3. God foretells the evil that's to come- that He might escape the pain of inflicting it. 4. Prophets/Preachers are troublers-who watch over the souls of men, and warn them of their fate if they do not turn from their sin, and repent. The bible is full of examples of the troublers God has chosen, and what they endured to obey the calls on their lives. God has had his chosen messengers down through the ages, and they are here today; but, they aren't received any better than those in the Bible. The world doesn't want to hear the warnings now, any more than in Elijah's or Noah's day, but, they persisted and gave the message. We must also. 5. Anyone who speaks prophetically for God, must be in the Word of God, and prayer-and walk closely to the Lord, and aligned in His will. 6. The message of any foretelling event-must come true. God is not double-minded, nor is He a liar. Deu 18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. Deu 18:21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? Deu 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him. See also: Isa_41:22; Jer_28:1-14; Jer_28:15-17 7. The servant must stand and give any message given by God-without compromise, or fear of man. This, is where the rubber meets the road. Many prophets today, are in it for self promotion, and appeasement of people. They want a following of people who have their ears tickled. The emphasis today is to be happy, fulfilled, prosperous, and to be well-liked. Jesus tells us just the opposite. If your given a true message from the God of heaven-people aren't going to want to hear it, and you will quickly lose your popularity. But if you are called and love God-you will do it. If God has called you to this service, my advice is simple. Say goodbye to the world, pick up your Bible, absorb it, and seek God with your whole heart. He's promised if we seek Him with our whole heart, we will find Him, and His voice, will be as clear as a trumpet call. Shalom. Lorna Couillard |
